Another Full Day at RG

I went to the hospital on the morning of October 21st to have Dr. Robert look at my stitches. I took pictures and shadowed him all day. It seems as though most all of their files are in physical folders, instead of online. Everything is handwritten. Dr. Robert grabbed a handful of folders and then started walking around to the patients, briefing me on each one. We took the outside path to the maternity ward, where he told me about a patient who was about to give birth. She had gotten pregnant just 3 months after she had had a c section, which is quite dangerous because the uterus needs time to heal.

Dr. Robert took me back to the operating room where we were the night before. Right when we walked in, a huge lizard scurried across the wall behind one of the machines. I jumped a little, and Dr. Robert laughed. "Do you fear lizards?", he asked. I told him that I didn't, but the fact that it was in an operating room concerned me a little πŸ˜‚. He told me that it wasn't until recently that the hospital got an overhead light above the operating table, and they used to use head lamps for night surgery.

I grabbed more black paint from the main office and went up to the computer lab to paint. I decided that in order to make my lines super straight, I would use the projector in the room to project a grid onto the wall that I was painting. It worked well!

I walked back for lunch and stopped to see Janice. She asked if I'd take some pictures of the hospital, secondary school, and primary school for their lawyer. After lunch, I did just that. When I returned to the hospital, Dr. Robert said that he wanted a full body picture of us instead of a selfie. He said that he would frame it and put it in his sitting room πŸ˜‡.

As I was walking to the secondary school to snap a few shots, I thought about the fact that I could wear short sleeves and not be freezing. At home, I am cold most all of the time. The sun keeps everything so warm here, and I am taking no second of it for granted!

I told Daniel (above) that I needed him to just start writing anything on the board, and he made a list of the crops that RG grows!

Just like the book title says, these kids are being educated to be leaders - leaders in their school, leaders in their community, and strong Christian leaders for the future of their country.

As I was walking around taking pictures, a few different students told me that I was smart or bright. I was so confused because I hadn't done anything πŸ˜‚. That isn't a normal compliment like "You look nice today." or "I like your dress."πŸ˜‚.

Then, I went to the boys house, and they were all hyping up my stitchesπŸ€¦πŸ˜‚. "You are so strong.", "It looks nice. You look like a boxer.", and "Why are you smiling?" are just a few of the comments that they made πŸ˜‚. Hosman and Daniel were the most curious about the stitches.

My coach and team from college had sent volleyballs, t shirts, and water bottles over with two visitors from Texas, and so I handed a few of them out and played with the kids for awhile. They were so grateful! Thank you, WLCVB!!

After volleyball, I talked to Jimmy about his favorite songs and artists. His favorite American artists are Eminem, Justin Bieber, Jason Derulo and Chris Brown. As for Ugandan artists, he has too many favorites, but he gave me a list of songs 😊. I walked back home and stopped by Robert's house to see baby Noah (below). Overall, it was an eventful day!!
