Computer Lab Painting Day

I woke up this morning at 6:30am and looked out my door to see a beautiful sunrise. I folded clothes, did other laundry, made coffee, ate breakfast, and washed the dishes all before 9am, which is not something that happens often for me 😂. I documented my stitches with a picture (below). Halloween is not celebrated here, but I looked ready for it anyways 😂.

I walked to the library to continue my painting in the computer lab. I saw Denis on the way, and he greeted me with, "You are so bright!". At that point I had just about had it, and I asked him why in the world people keep saying that. He said that it was because of the painting! He said that they mean creative more so than bright. That made SO MUCH more sense, and I thanked him for the explanation.

Students were occupying in the computer lab, but I was still able to work on the painting until about 12:15, until I gathered up some kiddos to go take pictures for an RG newsletter. A few of the pictures requested involved animals, and so Priscilla, Rubeena, Sarah, and I went to the pens with the chickens and goats. The girls were so fun to walk with, and they asked me lots of questions 😊. Later that day, all three of them brought me letters. So cute! Priscilla is holding the goat, and Rubeena is holding the chicken:

The rest of the afternoon and night was spent painting. Jimmy came walked into the lab, and I asked if he wanted to jump in. His first line was a little crooked, and so I was kind of nervous, but after that, the rest were perfect!! He is very creative/bright haha. Jimmy had to go study for his chemistry exam, but some others joined me as the sun went down. Janet, Olivia, Owili, and Jonathon all hung out in the lab while I painted. They did school work, watched youtube videos, and looked through pictures on my camera. Owili loved the prom video and said that he downloaded it from youtube. We would switch off playing an American song and then playing a Ugandan one. We all started dancing and even did the cupid shuffle in darkness, besides the light of the projector. It was SO fun to connect with them and enjoy each other's company.

I look terrifying with my eye, but below is a picture of Jimmy and I working on the mural. I didn't feel like painting pieces of equipment like a computer monitor or speakers, and so I went the more abstract route to make sort of a software board. If you try hard, you can read "Restoration Gateway" as part of the board. It was not finished yet at that point.

At one point when we were all dancing and singing, we heard a very loud noise that came from outside. Because we could not see out of the windows, a few people ran downstairs to check out what had happened. When they came back up, they told us that someone was learning how to drive and crashed into one of the concrete pillars of the auditorium 😱. I was shocked. I had so many questions. Who was learning to drive? Who was letting them drive so close to the buildings? Were they driving without lights on, or why were they driving at night? What kind of vehicle was it? None of the students who came back upstairs seemed too worried, so I decided not to be either. The most important thing was that nobody was hurt.
