Conversations with the Big Boys

I finally caught all the big boys at their house in the morning (10/19).

From left to right in the picture above: Hosman, Reagan, Patrick, patron Patrick, Joseph, Jacob, Gum, Denis

I hung out with them for most of the morning. Patrick, Denis, and Jacob were telling me about eating competitions in Uganda. I think it all started when I was talking about how much food my brothers can eat. They quickly assured me that they could eat more 😂. They said that Ugandans can eat way more than Americans if they want to. Patrick said that during a Ugandan eating competition, some competitors can eat 6kg of goat meat, 5 loaves of bread, 2 liters of pop, 32 eggs 😳. That's a crazy amount of food!

Then we started talking about girls, and I do not remember who it was, but I think it was Jacob that said, "It's not fun to go camping with someone who is occupied (meaning in a relationship). It is better to go with a friend who is empty-headed"😂.

They scooped me up a big portion of posho and beans, and I had a few bites. Gum took my camera and was taking pictures. Below, you can see what posho looks like.

Gum just chillin in the kitchen:

While we were eating, the boys shared some information with me that I was shocked to hear. Girls in many Ugandan schools, including RG, are not allowed to wear earrings or makeup. They were able to wear both for prom though! Also, as of about 4-5 months ago, the government enforced that both girls and boys must shave their heads. The girls were pretty sad when RG started enforcing that rule. Some big schools allow girls to keep their hair, but it is very hard to find a school that does. It is basically part of the students' uniforms and is practiced for hygiene purposes. It's easy to take care of, and lice is hard to get when your hair is super short!

The debate semi-finals were hosted again at RG and started less late than last time haha. This time, the two teams argued about plastics and the effects on the environment. It was quite entertaining because one of the students from the other team only had one volume (which was loud) and shook his fists with every sentence he spoke. RG won the semi-final round and advanced to the finals!

Robert talked about having me paint something on one of the walls of the new computer lab. We went to check out some of the artwork in the old computer lab to get a few ideas. After that, I went to play volleyball and watch the staff vs. students soccer game. Literally everyone plays soccer here!

Pictured above is Robert on the left, patron Patrick on the right, and I don't remember the name of the teacher in the middle 😬. They were fun to watch!
