Safari & Chobe Lodge

It was another dark 4:30am wake up for Molly, Bryn, and me as we left for the safari at 5am with our guide, Albert. We packed snacks, and Diana made us peanut butter sandwiches. I'm pretty sure we all slept on the way there, but we did wake up in time to catch part of the beautiful sunrise!

We saw lots of giraffes and elephants but no lions or leopards. It was a perfect day for a safari: sunny, warm, and no rain.

After the land safari, we did the water safari with some other tourists. We saw lots of hippos and found out that hippos can get sunburnt. That afternoon, it wasn't the hippos that got sunburnt. It was me πŸ˜‚ (you can kind of tell in the last picture).

We got cokes and Stoneys to stay awake.

However, the cokes and Stoneys did not work πŸ˜‚. The boat ride back was so soothing and relaxing that we all dozed off.

Albert brought us to Chobe Lodge when the safaris were over. We sat by the pool and walked around outside for a little bit while we waited for Diana, Mike, Tim, and Janice to arrive. I went up to the bar area in the main lodge to order a coffee because I was so tired, and I asked them if I could take it in a cup to-go, so that I could take it down all the stairs to the pool. I must not have been clear enough because they gave me a teacup of piping hot coffee filled to the brim. I spilled SO much walking down the 6+ sets of stairs. Oops πŸ˜‚.

We had another mini safari when Mike came to the pool and was trying to communicate with the baboonsπŸ˜‚.

Supper was super fancy, and we all had a great time listening to everyone tell stories. First, we had salads, and then we had pumpkin coconut soup. Next, we had the main course, which was fish, potatoes, and vegetables. We finished up with some chocolate cake! While we were eating, Tim told us a crazy crocodile story. A man came to RG with some big scars on one of his arms, asking if they could take his kid. The man said that he was a fisherman and he was fishing on the Nile, when a crocodile bit down on his arm and flipped the man over on his back. With the hand that was free, the man reached over and continuously poked the crocodile in the eyes until it let him go. He kept his arm, but it was severely damaged, and so he could no longer make a living by fishing. He was unable to provide for his kid, so he came to RG, hoping that they would take the child in. Unfortunately, I do not remember the ending of the story and what happened with the man πŸ€¦πŸ˜‚. But still, it was a crazy story!

I may have already told this story, but Tim and Janice told us again on the way home from Chobe. One time, Tim was driving super fast at night, and Janice slightly jokingly told him to slow down because an elephant could come out of the forest. Shortly after she said that an elephant popped out of the trees right in front of their car, ran forward for a few yards, and then crossed the road and went back into the trees. Now, Tim slows down when Janice thinks he's going too fast πŸ˜‚. The relationship that Tim and Janice have is so cute, and I hope to be like that some day with my future spouse 😊.
